FAQs
+ What does Northern Leaf do?
Northern Leaf is an EU-GMP licensed cultivator and manufacturer of bulk pharmaceutical-grade medical cannabis API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient). We grow and process cannabis from our facility in Jersey for export to regulated medical markets, primarily in the UK and Europe.
+ Do you sell cannabis to the public?
No. Northern Leaf does not sell cannabis to the public, to patients, or directly to clinics. We supply finished medical cannabis flower API exclusively to licensed distributors and partners in regulated international markets.
+ Do you supply cannabis to the Jersey market?
No. Northern Leaf does not supply the local patient market in Jersey. All of our product is grown for export under strict regulatory controls.
+ Is your cannabis for recreational use?
No. Everything we produce is medical cannabis, grown and processed to pharmaceutical standards for use by patients under prescription in regulated healthcare systems.
+ Where are you based?
Northern Leaf operates from a cultivation and processing facility at Retreat Farm in St Lawrence, Jersey. The site was previously home to the Tamba Park attraction and horticultural mail-order business Flying Flowers.
Jersey is a self-governing British Crown Dependency and the largest of the Channel Islands, located between England and France.
+ What standards do you operate to?
We operate to both GACP (Good Agricultural and Collection Practice) and EU-GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards. These govern how medical cannabis is cultivated, processed, tested and prepared for use as a medicine.
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP): A quality standard governing how medicines are manufactured, tested and documented
Good Agricultural and Collection Practice (GACP): A quality standard covering how medicinal plants are grown and harvested
+ Who regulates Northern Leaf?
Jersey does not have its own pharmaceutical manufacturing regulator, but the industry is overseen by a UK watchdog called the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), which works closely with the Island’s chief pharmacist. It focuses on enforcing Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) – the internationally recognised quality standard for pharmaceutical production.
Northern Leaf also operates under strict licensing requirements set out by the UK Home Office. After being granted a licence to grow hemp from the Government of Jersey in October 2019, the company was awarded a high-THC commercial licence under an MoU with the UK Home Office in December 2020.
+ What markets do you supply?
We currently supply regulated medical cannabis markets in the UK and Europe, where CBPMs can be prescribed by qualified healthcare professionals.
+ How many people do you employ?
Northern Leaf employs over 50 people across our cultivation, processing, engineering, quality, and management departments, making us one of the largest operators in Jersey’s medical cannabis sector.
+ Why Jersey?
The Island benefits from a stable and well-established regulatory environment, close geographic proximity to European markets, and a fast and efficient export licensing system.
Jersey also has a strong track record of regulating industries, alongside a long agricultural and horticultural tradition, an experienced workforce, and a secure operating environment with low levels of crime.

+ Is medical cannabis agriculture or pharmaceutical manufacturing?
Medical cannabis sits at the intersection of both. It is grown using advanced agricultural and horticultural techniques, but must also meet pharmaceutical manufacturing standards
